At Nelbrom Technology, we were recently called to inspect a faulty solar power system in Warri, Delta State.

The client complained of serious issues:

1. All 15 Panels Connected in Series into One MPPT

The installer wired all 15 solar panels in a single series string and connected them to one MPPT input.

This pushed the PV voltage far beyond the inverter’s maximum allowable limit.

Result: The inverter’s MPPT board was burnt.

This is one of the most common solar installation mistakes we see in Warri and across Delta State.

Every inverter clearly specifies its:

  • Maximum input current

Cable sizing must always match system current load.


4. Adding Another Charge Controller Without Fixing the Design

Instead of correcting the panel voltage configuration, another external charge controller was added.

It also failed.

Why? Because the root cause — excessive PV voltage — was never corrected.

Adding more equipment does not fix a bad design.


The Final Outcome

Due to poor installation:

  • The MPPT board was burnt

  • The lithium battery stopped charging

  • The system became unstable

  • The client suffered financial loss

The truth is simple:

Most solar failures are not caused by bad inverter brands.
They are caused by poor system design and incorrect electrical calculations.
